服田洋一郎というブルース
１９８６年。
大学に入り、建築そっちのけでどっぷりと浸かり始めたのがブルース。
ストーンズやクラプトンから、彼らのルーツへという
グランド･ツアーも、一つ目のヤマを迎えたあたり。
当時、偏愛していたクラプトンが尊敬してやまない特別な存在。
そのオーティス・ラッシュがやってくるという。
お互いに音源を貸し借りし、意見を交わしていた友人と、
「行ってみようか」。
会場は、ブラック・ミュージックの殿堂九段会館！
バックを務めるのはブレイク・ダウンを中心とした、日本の腕利きたち。
よくわからないまま終わった。
ブルースという音楽は、概ね独白形式で
個人的な恋や人生の機微を紡ぎ、
聞くものはそこに自らを投影させる。
簡単に言うとオーティス・ラッシュの背負ってきたものは、
ハタチの若造には分からなかったのである。
ちょっと分かった気になってたぼくは、
まだまだ深きブルースの世界を思い知らされたのでした。
あれから、１３年。
１９９９年４月３日。
オーティス・ラッシュのバックを務めた「はっちゃん」こと、
元ブレイク・ダウンの服田洋一郎のライブを初めて体験した。
はっちゃんは、形式としてのブルースだけをプレイするわけではない。
そもそもブルースとは、「概念」であり、「かたち」ではない。
ブルースにのめり込み始めた頃、極端に言うと、
「ブルース以外は音楽じゃない！」と思ってた。
事実、黒人音楽とワールド･ミュージックと呼ばれる
ルーツ･ミュージック以外の音楽には、拒絶反応に近い状態であった。
それは、ブルースという「概念」を抽出するために、
だから「かたち」に囚われていたのだ。
はっちゃん自身が「ブルース」なのだ。
そんなことを感じた。
以来、年に２度、高松にやってくる。
服田洋一郎という人間の体現するブルースは、
内奥に深く届き、熱量を与えてくれる。
